Chelsea Win Second Champions League Title
Kai Havertz Scores Only Goal in Final
Chelsea 1-0 Manchester City
Chelsea Football Club won their second UEFA Champions League title on Sunday, May 30, 2021, after defeating Manchester City 1-0 in the final at the Estádio do Dragão in Porto, Portugal.
The only goal of the match was scored by German midfielder Kai Havertz in the 42nd minute. Havertz received a perfect through ball from Mason Mount and slotted the ball past Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson to give Chelsea a 1-0 lead.
Chelsea held on to their lead for the rest of the match, with goalkeeper Edouard Mendy making several key saves to deny Manchester City any clear-cut chances.
The victory was Chelsea's first Champions League title since 2012 and their second overall. It was also the first time that an English club had won back-to-back Champions League titles since Manchester United in 2008 and 2009.
The match was also notable as it was the third UEFA Champions League final for manager Pep Guardiola. Guardiola had previously won the competition twice with Barcelona in 2009 and 2011 but had lost in the final with Manchester City in 2019.
